2024 Spring Sale Recap

15th Annual SEKGA Round Up & Sale

Carroll County Ag Center, Carrollton, GA

April 26, & 27, 2023

The Southeast Kiko Goat Association had its 15 th annual Round up and Sale the last weekend in April in Carrollton, Georgia. The cooler temperatures and spring breezes were enjoyed by everyone. Even the goats thought it was a good change.

We had eighty lots cosigned from nineteen consignors from seven different states providing a nice group of does and semen lots. Friday morning, we started our NZ buck raffle and fun raffle with gift baskets full of goat care items, Petcher Seeds, and Apple Cider Vinegar. We had some great educational speakers including Dr. Nikki Whitley, Animal Science Specialist from FVSU who gave a seminar on general health in the morning. Silent auction items rolled in throughout the day. Auction items are donated by our members and bid on through the weekend. All of the proceeds fund our SEKGA -Maxwell Scholarship. We had fellowship over hamburgers and hotdogs at lunch. That afternoon we had a Producer’s Panel for question and answer. This is always one of my favorites. New and older producers can always learn from others on how different programs are being run on farms across the southeast. We ended the day with our quarterly SEKGA meeting that was in great attendance.

Our youth 4-H/FFA skill-a-thon starts off our Saturday mornings. We had eight participants this year. Our farm kids were tested on their goat knowledge in hopes of winning a beautiful registered doe donated by Rich and Laura Davis of Pleasant Ridge Goats in Carrollton, Georgia. Our winners this year were a brother trio from Anderson South Carolina.
